1st & 2nd Grade P.E.
The kids in my first grade P.E. are so cute and full of energy. It's difficult to wear them out. It's usually the other way around, they wear me out! :). 40 minutes may not seem long, but it is with 20 first and second graders. I have found that I need to always be one step ahead of them and have at least 10 different activities planned. Either they get bored with the activities quickly, they don't understand the rules, or they don't follow the rules :). It's a work in progress. However, they crack me and I love their energy. The other day, we were playing tag in class. I would periodically change the rules to the game to add variety. One little boy did not like that! He stopped in mid stride and said, "That is not how to play the game. That is not the rules. You can't change the rules". He was beside himself and could not believe that I would dare change the rules to tag. I wasn't sure how to respond, so I told him that it was a different game. He didn't buy it :). Even though, it seems to be chaos the kids are burning tons of energy.
