Can you imagine being rocked in a boat, with a storm raging around you? I'm sure that some of you might even feel like this now. I know that I've felt like this a few times in the last week. :) The storm in Matthew 6 must have been a storm like no other, because the some of the disciples were fisherman, right? So we can assume that they had seen storms before. Jesus (God) was in the boat with them, so what was there to fear? Haha, we do the same thing all the time. The storms come, and Jesus is in the boat with us. All of sudden we go into panic mode as if Jesus doesn't see the danger ahead. "Jesus, wake up!" Really??? We get to our wits end, showing that we have not the slightest confidence in Him. He seems to be asleep, and we see nothing but breakers ahead. Jesus says, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?". Matthew 8:26.
My mom reminded me the other day, that as Americans we are very blessed to have the freedom to worship Jesus at anytime and at any place. We might get a little flak from those around us, but for the most part we don't experience persecution like people in other parts of the world. Imagine the faith of those who have lost everything because they bear the name of Jesus. For many Christians around the world, their lives and/or their family members lives are at stake. It's hard to put ourselves in that position, but I know that their faith is much stronger than mine. They have nothing else to hope in but Jesus. In life and death, He is always faithful. Do we believe that? If we believe God is faithful, and He is always true to Himself, than how can we deny it? Well, I do it all the time by my lack of faith. The disciples might have been thinking, "We had another chance to trust Jesus, and we blew it again." Actually, that's what often think. God gives us opportunities to trust Him all the time. We only have to put ourselves out there in reckless abandonment. Ok, it's not that easy, lol. If I would stop relying on my own strength, and trust Him I might begin to see that through the storms the boat will never sink. Oh God, increase our faith!!!
