It's been a long day... We left our apartment in Cambodia this morning to head off to Malaysia for a vacation. We have a week off of school due to the "Water Festival", which is a very popular Asian festival. However, in Cambodia it has been cancelled due to the "king's death". So we decided to get out of "dodge" for a bit. Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia. Our flight was only 2 hours so we arrives in Malaysia around 11am. One of the first places we see when we get out of the airport is STARBUCKS!!!! So, of course coffee was the first stop. Then we took a bus into the city and then jumped a couple of trains in search of our hotel. The train system is really convenient here, much different from Cambodia. :). However, this city is not a bike friendly city like Phnom Penh. The streets are busy, and not with motos and tuk tuks, but cars! Yep, it has more of a western feel, but they drive on the left side of the road here! That feels a little messed up. They actually do many things on the left side. When going up an escalator, there are signs that say, "keep to the left, to allow others to pass on the right.". Weird!!! So, after asking a few people for directions, it seemed that we knew where we were going. Well, it ended up taking us close to 5 hours to find our hotel. We actually took all the right trains but made one wrong turn when we got off the last train. Then a taxi took us somewhere far from our hotel, in an effort to find our hotel. He dropped us off and then the terrential downpore started, lol, which lasted for about 4 to 5 hours. Come to find out its been raining here every day for the last month. I guess it monsoon season, ya know :). So here we are sitting on a curb, waiting for the rain to stop, trying to figure out how we are going to find our hotel, and this random guy walks up to us and starts chatting with us. He has a taxi service in a nearby hotel. By 5 o'clock it is still raining, and traffic is insane. Our new friend, named Jack, is finishing work and about to head home. He insists on taking us to our hotel rather than using another taxi. He takes us to our hotel, which was a place we passed earlier in our day, but we never knew it. After checking in, Jack offered to take us out to dinner to one of his favorite Malaysian restaurants, and we agreed. The restaurant serves "clay pot chicken and rice" which a sort of Chinese/Malay dish. It was quite delicious!! Oh, and by the way, the fact that we met this guy is totally from the Lord. We had some good coversations with him and got to share a little bit about Jesus with him. Please pray for Jack. He doesn't really believe in much of anything. Malaysia is a country mixed with Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Christianity. Jack seems to take what he likes from each one, but not too seriously. So, at the end of the meal he says, "ok, you girls can pay." Haha, so funny! So we paid for our dinner and his, which isn't a big deal, but the way it happened was hilarious. After dinner we asked Jack to take us to a mall of some sort. Apparently, this city is know for its shopping and its malls. He dropped us off at this amazing 6 story mall with every store imaginable! The outside was decorated with tons of Christmas lights and trees. Christmas music was even playing in the background. We hit another Starbucks and found a movie theatre. We found out out hotel is a short train ride away, so I'm sure we will be going back there! Well, that is enough adventure for today. This was a long-winded post, so thanks for holding on to the end. Again, please pray for the Lord to bring other people into Jack's life to show him Jesus.
