We had our middle school basketball tournament last weekend. It is the finale to the season. It was great season of learning for both the girls and myself. It's fun to watch the girls improve and gain confidence over the season. I have a great opportunity to share the truth of why we play, for God's glory. However, I think I wanted to win more than they did at times. I have found that in coaching, I am just as competitive as I am when I play, lol. As I'm reminding the girls, that God is glorified in our wins and our loses, inside I hate the loses. I pray that they will remember that God is most glorified in the way we play the game and the way we live our lives.
There are only 4 teams in our league. They are all international schools within in the city. Sports gives us a great opportunity to reveal who our God is through our attitudes, through the way we play the game, and through the way we treat our teammates and our opponents.
We took second place at the tournament, right behind our rival school. The tournament was drawn up as a round robin, and then a final game at the end. The top 2 teams go to the finals. We played the toughest team first, of course. I was so proud of our girls. They came out and beat our rival school the first game. They showed great courage and spunk! We won every game of the round robin, but then we had to play our rival school in the finals to win the whole tournament. They beat us. :( Our girls were so tired, but they still showed great effort. We have come in 2nd place two years in a row now. The same team has beat us in the championship game both years. Next year is our year! :)
It was great season! I'm always learning new and better coaching techniques. Coaching brings great responsibility. These girls are looking to me for direction. I pray that I will continue to lead them well, in a way that brings God much glory.
At Logos, we have 3 sports season, with not much of break between seasons. We are now on to high school basketball and middle school soccer. I will now be coaching the girls middle school soccer team and assisting with high school basketball girls team. It's going to be a fun, busy season. I'm excited! Please pray that I will lead the girls well, and point them to Jesus while they play these great sports.
